Most of the attacks on Clinton that I read on Facebook are from Sanders supporters. Have you also published columns mocking Sanders's pretensions to speak for the world's oppressed, or is the mockery reserved for Clinton? Do Old and New supporters view Sanders as a positive alternative to Clinton?

Old and New does not have a formal position on the Sanders campaign. Linda Thompson discusses it a bit in her article “Glen Ford on Black and Working Class Political Independence, The implications of His Ideas for Supporters of Bernie Sanders.”  But that was written very early in the presidential campaign. Much has happened since.

We, the three editors of this website, speaking only for ourselves and encouraging others to express their thoughts too, do not see Sanders as a meaningful alternative to Clinton. While Sanders’s domestic agenda has made him seem like a positive alternative to many, his foreign policy makes it clear that this domestic agenda is based on the defense and maintenance of US empire. We don’t believe that revolutionaries ought to endorse any candidate who actively promotes US empire.

At the same time we do make a distinction between Sanders and the mass groundswell of support he has mobilized. That groundswell is certainly a positive development, especially in contrast to the right-wing populism of Donald Trump. The goal has to be to help as many Sanders supporters as we can to seek and find some independent expression of their alienation from the two capitalist parties once it becomes clear that Clinton will be the Democratic nominee.
